• Episode Notes

Ken and Julie demonstrate Discovery Bible Study using Luke 5:17–26, where Jesus forgives and heals a paralyzed man. Try the method with your family, friends, or small group.

    Five steps to try

    1. Choose a short Bible story or passage, usually about 12 verses or fewer.
    2. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide the study.
    3. Invite volunteers to read the passage in different Bible translations.
    4. Invite a volunteer to retell it in their own words without looking at the text.
    5. Discuss the passage using the five questions below.

    Questions for discussion

    • What is new, surprising, or confusing in this passage or story?
    • What do we learn about God?
    • What do we learn about people and the choices we make?
    • What is there to obey or follow?
    • What is one key takeaway you would like to share with someone else?

Keep it welcoming: Agree on a start and end time, invite volunteers, ask one question at a time, and close with prayer.
